Music Activities
The students stand while holding a sail (large piece of fabric), on which there is a ball. In the rhythm of the song they raise and lower the sail allowing the ball to travel. They shake the sail high together and the ball is thrown over. Every time the ball falls off the sail, the children leave the sail and imitate a sea animal or perform an exercise (run around the sail, jump on the spot, play hopscotch, etc.).
Variation: The sail is the sea and some balloons are placed on the sail. The pupils shake the sail following the rhythm of the song, as they sing. When they sing slowly it means that the sea is calm, while when they sing fast the sea is stormy.
Listen to songs related to the sea, such as: “Κύματα” (Kymata) by Stamatēs Spanoudakēs, “Θάλασσα Πλατειά” (Thalassa Plateia) by Manos Chatzidakis, “Γαλήνη” (Galēnē) by Dionysios Solōmos and Dēmētrē Lagiou.
Place hoops on the floor, the children become fish and move freely according to the rhythm of the song. When the music stops they have to get into the hoops, and the child that does not catch up leaves the game.
Instrumentation of the song using Orff instruments and Orff instrumentation techniques (ostinato, bordun, deskant, improvisation).
Create a choreography that highlights the form of the piece (a-a'-b).
